Sport and recreation in Bray Park received a welcome boost thanks to a $1.4 million grant announced today under the Queensland Government’s Major Facilities Program.
State Member for Pine Rivers Carolyn Male MP today confirmed that Sport Minister Phil Reeves had approved the funding for the Pine Rivers Memorial Bowls Club to help provide additional opportunities for local residents to participate in sport and recreation.
Carolyn Male said the Major Facilities Program provided financial assistance to organisations to develop and enhance sport and recreation infrastructure to meet community participation needs; support local, regional, state, national and international levels of training and competition; and to attract and host key sporting events.
“Without this funding program, it is often impossible for councils and other sport and recreation organisations to fund major sporting infrastructure,” Carolyn Male said.
“The $1,417,529 in funding will help the Pine Rivers Memorial Bowls Club upgrade the existing bowling green to a synthetic green with a covered shade.”
“The upgrade will boost opportunities for members of the community to be involved in physical activity.”
“Getting people of all ages involved in sport and recreation plays a critical role in the health of our communities,” Carolyn Male said.
Sport Minister Phil Reeves said playing sport and getting active was one of the best ways to improve our quality of life, both physically and socially.
“We want Queenslanders to develop a passion for physical activity at a young age so that they can carry it through into their adult life,” he said.
“If people have good access to sporting facilities in their local communities, it makes it easier for them to get involved in sport and recreation. We all know playing sport and getting active is one of the best ways to improve our quality of life, both physically and socially.”
“By ensuring Queenslanders have good access to sporting facilities in their local communities we will help make Queenslanders Australia’s healthiest people.”
Mr Reeves said the Major Facilities Program was a key element of the Queensland Government’s commitment to sporting infrastructure and facilities which will see more than $78 million in funding provided this financial year across the state; more than any other state or territory in the country.
