State Member for Pine Rivers Carolyn Male today announced that Moreton Bay Regional Council would receive $17,300 to upgrade the facilities at the South Pine Sporting Complex.
Carolyn Male MP said the funding was provided under the Local Sport and Recreation Program which provides councils with funds to construct recreation facilities, implement participation initiatives and develop locally based projects focused on a healthy community lifestyle.
“This $17,300 in funding will help Moreton Bay Regional Council build four outdoor gym activity stations at the South Pine Sporting Complex at Brendale,” Carolyn Male said.
Carolyn Male said the Queensland Government contributed 50 per cent of the total project cost of $34,000, with the remaining funds being contributed by the Moreton Bay Regional Council.
“The joint funding of this project is an excellent example of state and local government working together to improve sport and recreation services and facilities for all Queenslanders,” she said.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor, Allan Sutherland, has congratulated the Queensland Government for working in partnership with council to help improve the physical fitness of local residents.
“Whether it’s push-ups or chin-ups, this outdoor gym equipment has tremendous potential to get the neighbourhood in shape at a time when the community has become more aware of the serious health risks associated with obesity,” Mayor Sutherland said.
Carolyn Male said the Government will continue to support projects, organisations and individuals involved in sport and active recreation to ensure we achieve our goal of improving the health and wellbeing of all Queenslanders.
“We are committed to Toward Q2: Tomorrow’s Queensland initiative of making Queenslanders Australia’s healthiest people, by reducing obesity by one-third by 2020.
“By ensuring Queenslanders have good access to top-class sport and recreation facilities and programs in their local communities, we make it easier for people to lead an active and healthy lifestyle,” Carolyn Male said.
We’re already leading the charge with the ‘Find Your 30′ campaign, encouraging Queenslanders to find 30 minutes of activity each day.”
