Carolyn Male MP with Andrew Doyle Civil Landscape Project Manager inspecting the work
Carolyn Male MP, State Member for Pine Rivers, said that Bray Park train station passengers will soon have an additional 76 car parking spaces on the western side of the station.
Carolyn Male MP inspected the construction on the new car park today, which will take the total number of car parking spaces available at the station to 226.
“This car park extension off Brahms Street will encourage people to park their cars at the train station and take public transport to their destination, rather than adding to peak hour congestion on the Anzac Avenue and Gympie Road,” Carolyn Male MP said.
“This car park will be fully-fenced, covered by CCTV and have good lighting, which means it will be a safe and secure place to leave your car.”
“Bicycle facilities will also be upgraded for people who ride to the station to connect with trains.”
“Construction is being undertaken by QR on behalf of TransLink, and clearing of the site began earlier this year, with full construction getting underway this week.”
“I’m happy to say that it is anticipated that it will be completed about a month ahead of the scheduled six month timeframe, due to be opened to the public in October, weather permitting.”
Carolyn Male MP said the $1.1 million improvements at Bray Park train station were part of the State Government’s $10.5 million Urban Congestion Management Program (2009/10 budget), which has delivered improvements to train and bus stations across the network.
“This park ‘n’ ride extension is consistent with TransLink’s policy to develop these facilities outside the CBD and inner-fringe areas, and they are undertaking a preliminary assessment of the interchange facility at Bray Park with a view to improving pedestrian, cycle, and bus access as well,” Carolyn Male MP said.
“TransLink continually assesses the need for additional car parking at all train stations across the network and these extra 76 spaces are expected to handle current demand for car parking at the station until at least 2016.”
“Latest passenger data available for the first quarter of 2010 shows almost 1800 people movements through Bray Park train station during morning and afternoon peak each weekday - more when you include off-peak times and weekends.”
