Carolyn Male MP, State Member for Pine Rivers, would like to make Pine Rivers people aware that the Queensland Parliament committee for Economic Development are seeking ideas from individuals, groups and businesses as part of its inquiry into employment conditions.

Carolyn Male said, “The committee will be reporting to Parliament on what government should be doing to create employment opportunities and ensure Queensland is well-positioned for the economic upturn.”

“With unemployment expected to climb by 7.25% by 2010, public submissions and contributions to this inquiry are vital to its success.”

“I strongly encourage input from the people of Pine Rivers on how to best generate employment opportunities,” Carolyn Male said.

The committee’s terms of reference focus on identifying world’s best practice in programs that stimulate employment, as well as how Queensland can develop its strengths in its traditional and emerging industries.

“Queensland has always been economically strong in those areas that capitalise on our natural resources, such as mining and agriculture,” Carolyn Male said.

“However, Queensland also needs to develop its emerging industries in science, research, development and technology to be competitive in the global environment.”

An issues paper that provides information on the inquiry, the committee, and how to make a submission is available online at http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/edc.

Submissions close on 7 August 2009.
