Carolyn Male MP, State Member for Pine Rivers, QR Passenger and the Queensland Police Service are urging the community to consider their safety through a series of free passenger breakfasts.

Carolyn Male MP said a Project Car Smart breakfast would be held at Strathpine Railway Station, on 12 June, between 6.30am to 8.30am, where information would be available on safety, crime prevention and the local neighbourhood.

“This is a great initiative between the Queensland Police Service and QR, and helps to engage people on their way to work,” Carolyn Male said.

“Commuters are offered a free light breakfast, as well as information on personal and home security, safe travelling tips and QR’s RailSmart program.”

In addition to the breakfast, the Queensland Police Service will have the CrimeStoppers van at each station, and Rail Squad officers and QR staff will be present to answer any questions from passengers.

Carolyn Male said the initiative would reinforce the importance of security.

“People hear about crime everyday on TV and on the radio as they travel to and from work,” Carolyn Male said.

“Constant media coverage of crime can make people complacent about their own safety.”

“These breakfasts will provide another forum to bring these issues up for discussion and get people thinking about what measures they can take to improve their own safety.”

The breakfasts follow the recent launch of QR Passenger’s “Thinking of Misbehaving?” safety campaign, with billboards and in-train posters advising passengers of new upgrades to QR’s CCTV network at stations and inside train carriages.

The new, digital CCTV recording equipment captures clear, high quality images and has already assisted police in identifying people who have broken the law.

Last year, QR installed new CCTV digital recording equipment at 72 stations - there are now more than 6,000 cameras installed throughout the Citytrain network.
