Carolyn Male MP, State Member for Pine Rivers, today welcomed the news that the Worklinks community organisation, which has an office based in Lawnton, has received $485,000 from the Queensland Government to assist young people in finding employment.

Carolyn Male MP said that Worklinks had received the funding through the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative as part of the Get Set for Work program.

“Get Set for Work is for people of ages 15 to 17, who are unemployed and keen to be employed, and are disengaged from school life.”

“People interested in the program can join at anytime and the program runs for 10 weeks, 5 days a week resulting in the recognised Certificate I in Work Education or Certificate II in Workplace Practices”.

“If the student has not completed Year 10, they will have the opportunity to complete all or part of Year 10 equivalent mathematics and English.”

“This is a great chance for young people in Lawnton and the Pine Rivers electorate who find the school environment isn’t really working for them to follow a different pathway towards joining the workforce.”

“The support, training and information Worklinks can provide through this project will be a great help for young people from our area to make good decisions now that will improve their future prospects.”

Worklinks manager Jan Robinson said that the organisation has built up strong links with different employers and interested young people will be able to take on some work experience with them in areas like hospitality, manufacturing or logistics and distribution.
