Carolyn Male MP, State Member for Pine Rivers, today urged community groups and the council to apply for State Government grants of up to $10,000 each for projects aimed at reducing household carbon footprints.

Carolyn Male MP urged local organisations to sign up for Round 4 of the Bligh Government’s Low Carbon Diet Community Funding Program, to help fight the State’s carbon kilos.

“By working together as a community, Queenslanders can cut their carbon footprint by 2,000 kilograms in just 30 days, fostering not only a healthy environment but a healthy community as well,” Carolyn Male MP said.

“For example, local groups funded under rounds One and Two have used their grants to hold community workshops, start word-of-mouth campaigns, early childhood education and used their community networks to promote a low carbon diet lifestyle,” Carolyn Male MP said.

More that 100,000 Queenslanders have already been involved in the program, with applications for Round 4 funding closing on December 7.

“I encourage community groups to apply for funding and become involved in this statewide challenge to minimise climate change and our impacts on our environment,” Carolyn Male MP said.

“I also encourage the women of Pine Rivers to become members of One Million Women against climate change, like me. I believe in early action on climate change and I believe that Queensland women can and will lead the way in tackling climate change.”

“The goal of the One Million Women campaign is to inspire one million everyday Australian women, regardless of age, beliefs, backgrounds, careers, education and financial situation to make an online commitment to each cut one tonne of CO2, in a year.”
