Carolyn Male MP, State Member for Pine Rivers, said that there is still time to nominate for the 2009 Queensland Young Volunteer Awards.

Carolyn Male MP said the awards recognise young volunteers, aged 12 to 25, who give up their time and energy to help others.

“One third of young people in Queensland are volunteers and they’re making a real difference to people’s lives.”

“They deserve recognition for what they do. That’s one or the main reasons behind these awards. We want to acknowledge their contribution to the community.”

Carolyn Male MP is encouraging community leaders, teachers, sporting, social and community organisations to nominate young volunteers in the local community.

There are two age groups - 12 to 17 years and 18 to 25 years - in the following categories:

Green Volunteers - volunteers who have made a contribution towards protecting the natural environment

Young entrepreneurs - volunteers who have raised funds for the local community who have contributed to social enterprises

School action volunteers - students or student groups carrying out school-based volunteering activities

Community volunteers - individuals or groups whose volunteer work has strengthened the local community

Art and culture volunteers - individuals or groups whose volunteer work has contributed to the arts or cultural development of the local community

Entries for the 2009 Queensland Young Volunteer Awards close on 10 June 2009.
