Mayor Alan Sutherland and Carolyn Male MP opening the Pine Rivers Park Entertainment Precinct

The bigger brighter $4 million Outdoor Entertainment Precinct at Pine Rivers Park was officially opened today by Carolyn Male MP, Government Whip and the first to enjoy the new surrounds were the crowds that flocked to the Australia Day event, Aussie Arvo.

Carolyn Male said the precinct increased its capacity from 5000 to 10 000 people with the help of $1 million grant from the Q150 Legacy Infrastructure Program bringing to $2.05 million the Queensland Government’s contribution to the project.

“The redeveloped precinct is a sophisticated venue for the growing Pine Rivers area,” Carolyn Male said.

“Community groups wanting to stage concerts and larger events now have a venue right in their own back yard and they’ll be able to see it from afar thanks to the 17m tower that lights up the night sky.”

“I understand up until now event organisers have had to hire generators so they could operate their own sound systems. The redevelopment changes all that with power available on site to power for example sound systems and vendor vans.”

“What a great way to mark Queensland’s 150th anniversary of separation from New South Wales in 2009.”

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said the amphitheatre would be a great entertainment venue for the region.

“Pine Rivers Park has proved to be the number one outdoor entertainment venue in the Pine Rivers area over a number of years,” he said.

“The previous amphitheatre was the scene of many forms of entertainment organised through the council but it became somewhat restricted in capacity and facilities.”

“The new amphitheatre will open up a whole new range of entertainment possibilities. It also is in a picturesque setting with the South Pine Rivers as a backdrop and will certainly enhance the already excellent park facilities.”

The Q150 Legacy Infrastructure Program is a $100 million capital works funding program initiated by the Queensland Government to assist local council’s throughout the State create long lasting legacies of the 150th celebrations. There are more than 90 of these projects around the State.
