Carolyn Male MP, State Member for Pine Rivers, is pleased to announce that Pine Rivers schools showed overall improvement in the 2009 National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results.

Carolyn Male MP said that Bray Park State High School and Pine Rivers State High School in particular showed significant improvements this year.

“Bray Park State High School now has 94.5 per cent of students at or above the national benchmark for Year 9 in Numeracy, compared to 91.3 per cent in 2008,” Carolyn Male MP said.

“Similarly, Pine Rivers State High School improved its Year 9 result in Numeracy and now has 95.2 per cent of students at or above the national benchmark, compared to 93.1 per cent last year.”

“These schools deserve special acknowledgement for the hard work of the school community - the principal, teachers, parents and of course the students.”

“There is a lot more work to be done, but these schools are showing that it can be done. Congratulations to them.”

Carolyn Male MP also said that Genesis Christian College achieved the result of being a high performing school. This means that the College performed above that of Australia in all areas of the test - reading, writing, grammar and punctuation and numeracy.

“Congratulations to Genesis Christian College, this is an amazing result,” Carolyn Male MP said.

Australian school students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 undertook the NAPLAN tests in May this year.

Overall Queensland lifted its results in 17 of the 20 test areas and showed an improvement rate greater than that of the rest of Australia.
