The Pine Rivers electorate will receive around $710,000 for maintenance and repairs to social housing, State Member for Pine Rivers Carolyn Male MP announced today.
Carolyn Male said the funds were part of the Rudd Government’s Nation Building - Economic Stimulus Plan.
“It’s a win for workers in the local building industry and it’s a win for people who need a roof over their head,” Carolyn Male said.
“We’ve got our sleeves rolled up and we’re ready to go. We’ve fast-tracked the maintenance program so that we can start generating local jobs for workers in the building industry.”
“The maintenance and repairs program comes at a time when jobs and job security are more important than ever before,” Carolyn Male said.
Carolyn Male said today’s funding announcement was part of an $80 million maintenance and repair program to be rolled out across the state until June next year.
“It will include features to make life easier for elderly tenants or tenants with a disability, along with practical ways to give social housing dwellings more street appeal,” Carolyn Male said.
“It’s a win for the environment too. We’re looking at roofing insulation, rainwater tanks, gas hot water systems and a solar trial at selected sites.”
Carolyn Male said the Bligh Government had fast-tracked $40 million out of the program to be delivered around the state before the end of June this year.
