Primary students and teachers can tap into a host of water saving activities this year through the Bligh Government’s innovative waterwise education program, Carolyn Male MP, Government Whip said.

Carolyn Male MP today encouraged local schools to tap into the wide range of fun educational resources available through the Natural Resources and Water website at www.nrw.qld.gov.au/waterwise/education.

“As the new school year gets under way it is a good time for teachers and students to consider becoming water champions and help adopt water-saving attitudes and behaviour for 2009,” Carolyn Male MP said.

“We all have a role to play in ensuring the supply of water today and for future generations. We can all keep an eye on how much water we use and how we use it.”

Carolyn Male MP said the Bligh Government’s Water: Learn it for life! program has a range of lesson plans and activities for students from Prep to Year 7 that can be adapted for existing curriculums.

Carolyn Male MP also said funding was available for schools through the Bligh Government’s Waterwise Schools Recognition Program which encourages schools to reach waterwise milestones.

“The Waterwise Schools Recognition Program encourages students to adopt real-life water-saving measures while offering them the chance to earn their school up to $5000,” Carolyn Male MP said.

“Funding totalling $30,000 is on offer this year under the program, which is part of Water: Learn it for Life!.”

“Small changes will make a big difference and every school that implements water saving changes are making a significant contribution to reaching our Q2 target.”
