Carolyn Male MP, State Member for Pine Rivers, said that a consultation is currently underway regarding the Tenant Participation program.

Carolyn Male MP said that the government is seeking views from the community on how the program can be improved as social housing in Queensland is changing, offering an opportunity to review and enhance the Tenant Participation program to ensure its continued success and that it aligns with other government programs and services.

“The Tenant Participation program is the largest volunteer program of its kind in Australia. It gives tenants the chance to engage with community housing providers and the department in managing their homes and to participate in local community events and activities,” Carolyn Male MP said.

The Tenant Participation Program offers the following benefits:

- Helps to create better housing outcomes for tenants;
- Improves tenants’ access to health, employment, education and other services;
- Connects tenants to government agencies, local community organisations, services and professionals;
- Allows tenants to engage with their local community;
- Harnesses the goodwill of a range of stakeholders to ensure tenants are not socially isolated.

“The Department of Communities is seeking the views of tenants, registered housing providers, community organisations and interested people on how the government can improve the Tenant Participation program.”

“The new program will support seniors’ role in social housing and the contribution they make through participation and leadership in their communities.”
