State Member for Pine Rivers, Carolyn Male MP, joined Sport Minister Phil Reeves to recognise Pine Rivers’ young volunteers for their outstanding leadership in netball through the Queensland Government’s Challenge, Achievement and Pathways in Sport (CAPS) Program.
Carolyn Male MP and Minister Reeves acknowledged Taylor Faulks, Tegan Collins, Jessica Willis and Caitlin Pelgrave’s achievements in the 2009 CAPS Program.
“The CAPS program aims to encourage young people aged between 14-20 years to take on leadership roles within their chosen sport including coaching, umpiring, administration, sports health and event management,” Carolyn Male said.
“Participants have the opportunity to gain new knowledge and skills towards personal development and future involvement within the sport and recreation industry.”
“The young women awarded today received a Sport Leader Award for their dedication to developing their leadership skills and experience through the CAPS program at Pine Rivers Netball Association.”
The award recipients include:
• Taylor Faulks, 16 years old, has been highly involved in both club house weekend operation as well as the running of the annual Club Carnival that saw over 1100 athletes involved.
• Tegan Collins, 16 years old carried out a range of roles through CAPS, and particularly excelled in coaching (achieving her Foundations Coach Accreditation) and very much enjoyed serving customers at the canteen every week.
• Jessica Willis, 16 years old, holds an umpiring accreditation and each week volunteers her time to umpire games. Jessica enjoyed the administration area of the CAPS program as well as coaching.
• Caitlin Pelgrave, 15 years old has been mentored by an umpiring coordinator and taken on the role of coordinating all umpires for weekly Saturday fixtures which involves over 60 games each week, each requiring 2 umpires.
“I would like to acknowledge the Pine Rivers Netball Association for their commitment to the CAPS program in helping these young ladies and other local kids to stay involved in netball and encouraging them to become future leaders in this great sport.”
