Carolyn Male MP, State Member for Pine Rivers, today welcomed the announcement that Youthcare Pine Rivers would receive more than $179,000 over three years to continue their vital work helping young people in crisis.
“Youthcare Pine Rivers is a life-saver for many young homeless people. They are giving young people a safe place to go and a roof over their head. From there, they can start to get their lives back on track,” Carolyn Male MP said.
“Youthcare Pine Rivers provides case management and medium to long term accommodation and support for homeless young people.”
“These funds will help vulnerable young people in our local community.”
President of Youthcare Pine Rivers Inc, David Horstman welcomed the funding and stated that, “these funds will help Youthcare with its ongoing support of needy youth within the Pine Rivers area.”
Minister for Communities Karen Struthers said the funds would be shared by more than 70 non-government organisations working in key areas including homelessness, domestic violence prevention and youth justice.
The Bligh Government has set aside $66 million over three years to create fairer communities in the greater Brisbane region.
“This is about building a fairer, stronger Queensland and reaching out to people who need our help the most,” Ms Struthers said.
“I commend Youthcare Pine Rivers for the work they do. They’re working at the very core of the community and they understand the desperation faced by young people who have hit hard times.”
“A growing number of people are facing financial hardship in these tough economic times. That’s why the work being done right here in the community by Youthcare Pine Rivers is so important,” Ms Struthers said.
