Think global, act local was the Premier’s message to the State Labor Caucus gathering regarding the global economic crisis, Carolyn Male MP, Government Whip and Labor Candidate for Pine Rivers said. Carolyn Male MP said the severity of the global economic crisis is clearly on all our doors.
“I know this from listening to the Pine Rivers people, but it has been put into perspective by the likes of Australian Industry Group economist Chris Rodwell, Macquarie Group’s Rory Robertson, Queensland council of Unions Ron Monaghan and the Queensland Council of Social Service director Jill Lang.”
“The Premier reminded us that while the global economic crisis was not of our making, we must continue to respond to it. Her message was: Think global, act local.”
The Bligh Government’s response includes:
• quarantining our capital works program from budget cuts
• bringing forward $27m in Sustainable Resource Communities program
• a Jobs Squad of outside experts to protect jobs
• a Treasury briefing to the first cabinet meeting of the year
• finding vacant public service positions for the new Rapid Response Flying Squad
• a review of the late 1990s jobs plans
• finding ways to ease the burden on business
“We have had the chance to offer feedback to the Premier and Cabinet about local conditions and local ideas and they are listening,” Carolyn Male MP.
